Fall seems to be here. The pellet stove came on this morning, and it's been raining off and on. I've been hovering anxiously over my tomatoes, wringing my hands and wondering if I should pick all of them and let them ripen indoors, or wait and see what else they might do on the vine. The weather is supposed to get warm and sunny again, so maybe there is hope.

Fall lettuce
Speaking of the garden!
The autumn crop of lettuce is doing okay, but it's partner the spinach seems to have fallen prey to a rampaging chicken. Goldie has figured out how to launch herself over the 12 foot fence from the roof of the shed. Bah.

Zoe the Speckled Sussex
I'm no longer sure who laid the egg I found in the Nitwits' nest box. I haven't seen a second one, although both of them should certainly be laying eggs by now. I'm starting to think that PingPong may have hopped in and decided to try laying an egg somewhere new.

Zoe has gotten much friendlier. She is such a gorgeous bird. Goldie is pretty, too, but she's so flappy and nervous.
